AWRI receives donations from individuals, corporations, foundations, and international institutions and channels them to vetted frontline NGOs working directly with WIDOW. We are the trusted intermediary that makes giving to this cause accountable, transparent, and impactful.

Donors who give through AWRI can trust that their contribution will reach an organization with the capacity, the community relationships, and the programme infrastructure to deploy it effectively. Every disbursement is tracked, reported, and published.

2. Think Tank — Research, Knowledge & Policy

AWRI is Africa's dedicated think tank for widowhood. We generate, curate, and disseminate research, data, and policy analysis that the sector can learn from, build upon, and use to advocate for change. Our research function ensures that decisions — about funding, programmes, and policy — are grounded in evidence, not assumption.

AWRI engages government bodies, legislative committees, and international institutions to advance systemic reform on widowhood — in collaboration with partner NGOs.

3. NGO Coordination & Network

One of the greatest missed opportunities in the widow support sector is the absence of coordination between organizations doing similar work. NGOs that should be collaborating are instead operating in isolation, duplicating effort and missing opportunities for collective impact.

AWRI builds and maintains a coordinated network of widow-focused NGOs across Africa — creating pathways for resource-sharing, joint programming, referral networks, and collective advocacy that no single Organization could sustain alone. Membership in the AWRI network comes with access to funding, research, training, and a seat at the institutional table.

4. Advocacy — Policy Reform & Public Voice

AWRI uses its institutional platform to advocate for the systemic changes that Africa's WIDOW need — from strengthened property rights legislation to reformed inheritance laws and improved state welfare provision. We do this in partnership with our NGO network, ensuring that advocacy is grounded in the lived realities of the women the sector serves.

We do not do all the advocacy. We do the advocacy that requires institutional credibility, policy access, and a continental platform. The frontline NGOs do what they do best. Together, we cover the full spectrum from community to cabinet.
