AWRI exists to serve the organizations on the frontline of widow support across Africa. If your NGO is working directly with WIDOW and you have the credibility, the community roots, and the capacity to deploy resources effectively, we want to hear from you.

Who We Partner With
AWRI partners with registered NGOs, community-based organizations (CBOs), and faith-based organizations that work directly with WIDOW in any of the following areas:
Housing & Shelter

Transitional housing, homelessness prevention, and emergency accommodation for WIDOW.

Legal Aid

Property rights, inheritance advocacy, and legal representation for WIDOW.

Economic Empowerment

Vocational training, business support, micro-grants, and livelihood programmes.

Psychosocial Support

Grief counselling, trauma therapy, and mental health services.

Community Reintegration

Social support, peer networks, and community inclusion programmes.

Education Support

School fees assistance, scholarships, and learning support for WIDOW and their children.

Healthcare

Medical outreach, health education, and clinical support for WIDOW.

NGO Vetting
Criteria

AWRI takes its stewardship of donor funds seriously. Every NGO that receives funding through AWRI must meet the following criteria before being admitted to the partner network:

1. Legal Registration

The Organization must be formally registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) or the equivalent national body in its country of operation.

2. Widow-Focused Mandate

The Organization 's core mandate must include direct service delivery to WIDOW. WIDOW must be a primary, not incidental, beneficiary group.

3. Operational Track Record

The Organization must have a minimum of 12 months of active programming, with documented evidence of services delivered and beneficiaries reached.

4. Financial Accountability

The Organization must demonstrate basic financial management practices, including the ability to provide bank statements, expenditure records, and financial reports.

5. Safeguarding Policy

The Organization must have or be willing to adopt a safeguarding and child protection policy that meets AWRI's minimum standards.

6. Impact Reporting Capacity

The Organization must demonstrate the ability to collect and report basic impact data, including number of beneficiaries served, services delivered, and outcomes achieved.

7. Community Trust

AWRI will conduct basic due diligence including reference checks with community leaders, partner organizations, or government bodies that can attest to the Organization 's credibility.

8. Alignment With AWRI Values

The Organization must operate in a manner consistent with AWRI's values of dignity, integrity, inclusion, and empowerment.

NOTE: Organizations that do not yet meet all criteria may apply to AWRI's Capacity Building Track,
through which we provide structured support to help them meet the standard.
The door is open — we meet organizations where they are.

How to Apply

Step 1

Complete the AWRI NGO Partner Application Form (available below)

Step 2

Submit required documents: registration certificate, programme overview, financial records, safeguarding policy, and impact data

Step 3

AWRI grants team reviews the application
within 15 working days

Step 4

Shortlisted organizations are invited for
a virtual or in-person review meeting

Step 5

Approved organizations are onboarded into the AWRI Partner Network and considered for funding allocation
